“ You melt words
In the studio with Gavin again. David is recording this time. We’re after a skeletal sound. There’s a lot of arrangement but very little playing to these tracks – a drum beat, vocals, and sparse use of bass guitar and trumpet. We’ve decided to make 12” extended versions, bypassing the radio edit. With UB40’s Madam Medusa in mind, the drums are heavily processed with delay.
The lyrics of You melt words are a diatribe on governance and the manipulative messages of government. Pressed in unlabelled black 12” vinyl, a photograph of the abandoned structure for the Allied Irish Bank headquarters and a shattered and reassembled bowl are enclosed. Each cover is rubber stamped with a motif derived from the floorplan of Edward Lovett Pearce’s Parliament House at College Green in Dublin, home since 1803 to Bank of Ireland.
I make videos to accompany both tracks.”
